This project involved conducting a historic district survey of Walnut Street in Florence, Alabama, with the goal of updating its 1976 National Register nomination and exploring potential district expansion. I documented the current condition of historic buildings through detailed surveys, photographs, and a comprehensive historical narrative. Using tools like Excel, survey forms, and USGS mapping, I updated existing listings, assessed properties on the district’s edges for inclusion, and compiled a history of the district’s development.
The final report included an updated nomination form, a historical overview, and recommendations for expanding the district to better reflect Florence’s architectural and cultural heritage.
